I was reading an interesting article about the importance of using a toner in your skin care regimen, and I wanted to pass along some interesting facts and a few tips.
Why toners are important
Gone are the days of harsh astringents. New ingredients and a better understanding of the way the skin works has led to better toners that improve the skin. Toners will remove cleanser residue, balance the pH of the skin, and prep the skin for the other skin care products.
Your skin is like a sponge. When wet it will absorb you serums and moisturizers better, and since these are the more expensive part of your skin care regimen, you want to get the best results. You will use less product, which can save you money.
Ingredients to look for:
-Tocopheryl acetate, also known as Vitamin-E
-Witch Hazel in small amounts
Ingredients to avoid:
-Sodium Laureth Sulfate
Best ways to use toners:
I personally like a spray mist the best. If a toner doesn’t come as a mister, I go to a store and buy a bottle mister and make my own. If that isn’t what you like or isn’t possible/practical, here are some alternative methods.
Cotton Method: Apply a small amount on cotton ball or eye rounds and wipe on face.
Splash Method: Put a small amount of toner in the palm of your hand and wipe on face.
Now my Sothys plug. They have a wonderful line of toners and are reasonably priced.
